Running for RP

We now have 10 confirmed team members for the Llanelli 10k.

John Carruthers, 27 of Wrexham. John is a Llanelli boy and grew up on Gelli Road. John left Llanelli 5 years ago to relocate to Wrexham but regularly returns to visit family and friends. John is a cardiac physiologist working in Wrexham Hospital.  “I am really looking forwward to the run and pleased that so many people have got involved. Hopefully we can raise loadsa money for the BRPS and raise some awareness too” John says. 

Laurie Carruthers, 29 of Wrexham. Laurie is originally from Merthyr Tydfil but has strong links to Llanelli. She relocated to Wrexham with her husband John and visits South Wales regularly. Laurie is a solicitor working in Cheshire.  “I’m not really looking forward to the run, I avoided all athletics at school and somehow I have been roped into this” says Laurie. “It will all be worth it if we can raise money for the BRPS and awareness of RP. A few years ago a family member was diagnosed with it. We are doing this not only for a great cause but for a great person.”

Grant Rees. 26 of Llanelli. Grant is born and bred in Llanelli. Grant is a Family Support worker in Carmarthen and an NVQ assessor. ”At the start of the year John dared us to take part in a half marathon. It was all a bit of a joke at the time but it has turned into something really great” says Grant. “We started off just thinking we would train for a run and then thought it would be good to raise money for a charity. This is a great cause which should be recognised more in society and I am doing it for a great bloke!”

Sarah McGinley, 21 of Llanelli. Sarah currently works at Theatr Elli in Carmarthern and has strong background in performing arts. She can regularly be found gracing the stages of Llanelli and Carmarthen theatres and also behind the scenes as a director.

Mike Edwards, 30 of Barry. Mike is a a project planner working for Holder Mathias in Cardiff. He is training really hard for the runs and you can check out how his training is going on here. He is really enthusiastic about our fundraising efforts and is putting a number of other initiatives in place.

Lisa Edwards, 31 of Barry. Lisa works at Legal and Genral in Cardiff. Lisa originally hails from Llanelli but now lives with her husbanc Mike in Barry. Lisa openly admits that running is not something she is looking forward to or would usually do but as this is for such a great cause she can’t wait to pull the running shoes on.

Carolann Jones, 32 of Ammanford has been running for a number of years and recently run her first half marathon. Carolann is looking forward to running with a team she knows and raising cash for a charity which means a lot to us.
