The RP Will Rock You Event went extremely well and we raised a further £230 on the night.

A big thank you goes to all the performers, attendees and those companies and people who donated raffle prizes.

We have had a busy few weeks and are now in the process of arranging two more events for October and November. We will keep you posted.

Llanelli 10k

llanelli-teamI would like to say a huge thanks to all those who ran with us on Sunday at the Llanelli 10k - Grant, John, Mike, Laurie, Carolann and Lisa. Also a huge thanks to everyone who came down and supported us.

Grant managed his best time yet and completed the 10k in 55 minutes, followed closely by John at 1 hour 1 min. John has said that he was really disappointed that he didn’t complete it in the hour but aims to better that time at the next run.

Carolann finished slightly after John and completed the run very comfortably.

Laurie, even with shingles managed to complete the run, her time being 1 hour 20. She was very pleased with her time and hopes she can better that at the next run.

Mike and Lisa followed Laurie shortly after and we are all very proud of Lisa for completing the 10k, especially as her knee was bandaged up.

You can still sponsor the team for the run and provide your support by visiting our Just Giving page.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and all those who are supporting us.

We are delighted to be hosting an awesome event which will include a host of talented musicians and singers from the Welsh Valleys.

You’ll love the mixed line up of rock, folk and indie, all talented musicians and singers. The full line up will be announced over the next few weeks but we are thrilled to be able to announce the following bands:

n743500491_7084637_7315710THE AVISI

The Avisi are four mates fom the Valley’s of South Wales. Hailed to be the next big welsh band, these guys know how to play a distinctive rock show.

Their songs are energetic with catchy and thought out lyrics and structure. The CD’s great but the live show is better.

WHITE DICE

White Dice are a welsh band who since officially forming have been on a non-stop round of gigging and performing.

Formed in 2004 after the breakup of FireFlyz Lucas and Kris went into overdrive, perfecting the sound they wanted. After a constant roll over of band members, 2006 marked the start of White Dice as Gareth Arnold joined on lead guitar.

White Dice released their first album ’What We Left Behind’ world wide in 2008.  www.whitediceonline.com and www.myspace.com/whitedice

We would love for you to join us and help to raise money for a great cause. All proceeds raised on the night will go towards RP: Fighting Blindness. Places will be limited and tickets can be booked in advance by emailing your details and the  number of tickets required to events@running4rp.co.uk

We look forward to seeing you there.

Cardiff Half Marathon

cardiffRunning for RP will be taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon on 18th October 2009.

The aim is to join Team RP at the London Marathon in 2010 and we hope our efforts pay off.

We have gone from being a group of people who did very little exercise with no experience of taking part in running events, to training for a half marathon.

Grant is the only member of Running for RP who has taken part in athletic trials before this and that was a number of years ago during his college years. John was very much into his fitness regime when he was in university and was a keen rugby player, but has not taken part in athletics and has not trained for a long while. Laurie has never been very enthusiastic about exercise and hated sports lessons in school, almost always producing a note to get out of it.

We have all been motivated to raise as much money for RP as possible and taking part in the 10ks has spurred John on to take part in the London Marathon and raise more funds as part of Team RP. Whilst Laurie does not think that she will be ready to take part in the marathon, John is determined that he will.

In preparation for the London Marathon and to offer John as much support as possible, Grant and Laurie will be joining John at the Cardiff Half Marathon. They will go on to support John at a number of other running events throughout the following year to help motivate John and encourage him to achieve his ultimate goal of joining Team RP in 2010. If you have any training tips you can share with us or any encouraging comments please get in touch. We would love to hear from you.

The next few months are certain to be tough and we will really need the motivation.

Well Done

manchester-10k-003A big congratulations to John, Grant and Mike for completing the Manchester 10k.

The boys were in the city bright and early on Sunday morning and raring to go! You could taste the excitement and the nerves were held at bay.

The boys headed to their assembly point at 10.30am where they took part in the mass warmup and were ecouraged by Russell Watson singing you raise me up.

The boys were in the pink wave of runners and completed the 10k route in 1 hr 8 mins. A great effort. They even finished the run saying they could have cut the time down had they been in a different wave and want to return next year to complete it in a better time!

The rain held off for the majority of the run and only started when the boys were on the last leg and reaching the finish line. We were all soaked to the skin  by the time we met them after the run.

We are all very proud of them and wish them the best of luck with the Llanelli 10k in June.

Wet Weather

The weather forecast for the weekend is looking awfully grim with heavy rain in Manchester on Sunday. Hopefully this won’t dampen the boys spirits as much as them!!
Keep your chin up boys you can do it!
